I'm stuck. I can't find any clearcut references for "How Hermes...", "Bender Gets Made" and "AOI I" for my guides. Anyone know any? Especially for the first ep.

Define References -- references to previous episodes, or referenses to movies and stuff?

"How hermes requisitioned his groove back" comes from the movie Brazil, as stated on the dvd commentaries.

AOI 1 had the Iron Giant, and the "I call it a  Hawking Hole" was sorta from when Steven Hawking predicted radiation coming out of a black hole and named it, before it was discovered, which is sorta against scientific tradition (never name it after yourself, and only name it when you prove it exists).  I could be wrong, though.

The title is from the movie "How Stella Got Her Groove Back".

The ball sentry Bender bumps into is a beholder, known from Dungeons&Dragons.

Sherlock Holmes: Zoidberg dons the famous hat and magnifying class of the fictional detective.

Various monster movies like Godzilla, King Kong etc: Oversized creatures battle eachother in major city, destroying buildings in the process, while fighter bi-planes circle around them.

Grand Unified Theories: Area of physics that work on creating the Theory Of Everything, where every known force  in the universe can be explained through the use of one single theory, rather than the multitude of theories in use now. Stephen Hawking is a major contributor in this area. The sign on the school bus (Grand Unified Schooldistrict) is a reference.
