The very first title suggestion finally comes to life. I miss ya, kid.

Now, a chronicled history...

Deep Down: Fry and Leela Soul Searching (Semi-Official Shippers' Thread 2.5)*

Once More, Into the Deep: or, I love Futurama, it goes so well with my soul... (Semi-Official Shippers' Thread 3.5)*

* I never really bothered with these deep-down threads at the time (stupidly arrogant of me, really), believing them to be merely carbon copies of what the Official threads were supposed to be. Actually, to tell the truth, they were. It was just that the Official variation I created wasn't keeping up to the proper expectations. It was a failure warning, so to speak. Which is one of the reasons I am overjoyed at Frida Waterfall's arrival. She's given us a purpose to disscuss again!

A chronicled history consisting of the official pages only...

And something to kick off disscussion with... Yes, you guessed it... A very shiny Xanquoted post!

She's a strong woman; strong and self-reliant, and so that's the kind of thing she'd look for in a potential mate. Fry needs to take some initiative, grab her by the shoulders one day and just plant a big hard kiss on her. She'd probably kick him in the head, but she'd still respect him for having the guts, and he could work from there.
---------------------

The way she respects Zapp for his constant, pushy advances?     I think someone’s been reading too many “sweet savage love” stories...or maybe Gor novels.    :puke:

There may be some women who “respect” someone aggressively violating their personal space, but Leela shows no signs of being one of them - again, look at Zapp, who does it all the time.  He’s climbed in her BED on the ship, and she walloped him, and yet this “respect” thing does not seem to have appeared in their relationship.

Leela’s healthy enough to respect those who respect her...and being a masher is not remotely respectful.

quote:
---------------------
The constant whining and grovelling ain't what a woman like Leela would find in the least bit attractive.
---------------------

Agreed.  But she seems most attracted to Fry when he’s being sweet; when he’s concerned for her, or sincerely trying to make her happy, or going all out to save her.

---------------------

Fry?  Not having any confidence?  BWAH-HAH-HAH-HAH-HAH!

Fry is far more confident than a deadbeat slacker fanboy has any reason being - sure he thinks of himself as a loser, but he’s reasonably confident of his ability with the ladies...at least, in the wooing portion (even giving Zoidberg lessons in how to “score” ).  And indeed, when we first met him, he not only had an attractive girlfriend (Michelle...whatever else you can say about her, she hadn’t been hit by the ugly stick), but he proved himself fully capable of going to a club and leaving with a lovely one-night-stand in "Loves Labors Lost in Space," and was rather smoothly chatting up the Amazon woman in "Brannigan Begin Again."

Fry’s awareness of his own loserdom regards the realm of financial success and, er, social couth...but he seems rather happy with his niche, all the same, only regretting his lack of achievements when it gets in the way of his getting something else, something he really wants.  Fry’s serene self-assuredness in the face of his utter geekboyness is one of the funniest and most original parts of his character.

And Leela does NOT treat him like crap!  Which leads me to...

---------------------

Watch it with the insults...some of us take slams at Leela rather personally. <glare>

As for “Parabox,” We didn’t SEE her apologize...but she looked plenty shame-faced while her ploy was being revealed, and in the end she agreed to go out with Fry...which was, I’m sure, all the apology he cared about.

Why do people think Leela treats Fry badly?  How would YOU handle a guy who just won’t take “no” for an answer, whether it’s delivered gently, harshly, humorously, or with mild contusions (TKOS)?  A person gets awfully tired of repeating herself.  Believe it or not, saying “no” is no picnic...it’s uncomfortable, unpleasant and difficult.  NOBODY likes to make someone else unhappy, especially not someone you know and like.  And Leela has has to do it over and over again, or else do something purely because she’s been pressured...I’d get a bit annoyed, too!

---------------------

Now, I like that idea a lot better.  He has said she’s beautiful, but she might be subconsciously inserting “except for the eye thing” whenever someone says that.  If Fry said outright that it was beautiful, she couldn’t mistake him.

Now that’s something we can ALL enjoy...

And to finish it off, enter Colin Baker!

Pedro La Loco was an anti-shipper of the highest caliber, a spammer and troll who limited himself exclusively to the Human Resources Department and made ridiculous and outrageous claims about how Leela was 'his woman', and how 'Fry should die', and how 'you'd have to be as gay as Xanfor to think they'd ever get together in the end'.

Extremely fond of the  :finger: smilie (which was almost exclusively directed at me), Pedro has since left PEEL of his own free will, and is now presumably leading his army of bikini-clad lesbian Leela-bots across the frozen desert of his imagination to wage war upon the oases of romanticism that remain as forgotten embers planted by the ancient former regulars of this thread.

He was the first person to ever suggest a new title. That title is above. And since if he ever returns and meets you, Frida, he will most surely detonate in a flurry of watermelons and TTP admission slips, I thought that he might be comforted in his torturous demise by the small, minuscule fact that at least, despite the insignificance of his brief, profitless existence, he was not forgotten.

Now I miss him all over again.

HATE the title.  Newcomers will have no idea what the hell this thread is about.

On a shippier note:

Reasons Fry and Leela belong together:

1. Because he needs someone with sense.

2. Because she needs someone impulsive.

3. Because he never left her side for two whole weeks.

4. Because she couldn’t get him out of her dreams.

5. Because together, they're lonely together.

6. Because he has a thing for a cyclops he works with.

7. Because he loves her.

8. Because she loves him, but won’t let herself realize it.

9. Because she's better than normal, she's abnormal.

10. Because he’s got that brain thing.

11. Because she leaves him breathless.

12. Because she gave him her breath.

13. Because she doesn't care if he's not the most important person in the universe.

14. Because the second coin flip was heads.

15. Because she said it was.

16. Because it got through

17. Because she wanted to know how it ends

I agree with Xanfor and Coldy. I've often wondered why he never said anything about how he likes her eye. I think he either knows it's a touchy suject (which is why he only really mentioned it once) or he doesn't even think about it as different anymore because he likes her just as she is (ala Cyber House Rules).

Fryandlemon, that was so beautiful i almost cried. No that's my ripped contact lense. Still very nice though.

As for the new title, I love it. It's such a ridiculously obscure reference. See that's the reason you run this thing, your a freakin genius. Just more evidence to support my theory that you aren't human.

Also: nice GIF, Xanfor.  Some of the pictures look really grainy, though.

Despite being a noob, I actually did read the great Xanfor vs. Pedro exchanges... and laughed my guts out!

See if you can force your GIF program to emit a separate colour table for each frame in the animation, Xanfor. That would take care of some of the graininess. Oh, and thanks a bunch for getting that earwormy song in my head... argh!

Dammit, Vanessa Williams... I haven't heard that song for donkey's years... and now I have to dig out my dusty old cassettes and find it...

Damn you XANFOR!!!

Regarding my old forgotten post about Fry telling Leela she has a beautiful eye... she doesn't - she just has a white circle with a dot in it (see my current fanfic for some snarky existentialism on that particular point), but I suppose it's a representitive thing so yeah, I still couldn't agree with me more on that point.

Of course, they all have eyes like that. The point is, hers happens to stand out to him as something better.

I read the first post thinking "I remember reading this!" Forum nostalgia. Weird.

Now that I think about it, how do people even get any enthusiasm in their voice to be able to try and let someone down gently? I know Leela does respect Fry as her friend, but if someone I was uninterested in expressed interest in me...well my face would give it away before I had a chance to think about their reaction. But of course, with the theory of Leela secretly being interested, it makes sense that she wouldn't be able to fully convince him otherwise...*takes self round circles*

It's easier for her to conceal her feelings because her face is a simple line drawing without much detail given to specific features.

Yeah, I agree.  I think it would add to her appearance if she let her hair down more often too.  She looked really good in that superhero episode.

Thanks!  Hopeless shipper (I think, sorry if it's not, i'm too lazy to look it up now   :p) helped me with about half of the reasons.  It's somewhere on the last shipper thread.  I will look it up eventually to make sure i credit the right person!

Oh and feel free to add more to the list if you have any more reaons!

anyways, shippy, shippy... I was watching "Amazon Women in the Mood" today and noticed a very shippy Amy/Fry picture on Kif's Amy wall.  Them both in bathing suits, Fry holding Amy up off her feet in his arms.  Well, could be considered shippy...  Too bad all the framegrabs on the internet are too small for it to be seen properly..  Just thought I'd mention it.

Postulate 1: Kif had met the Planet Express bunch several times before that episode.

Postulate 2: Bender would sell almost anything to almost anyone.

Postulate 3: he hacked into the PE security camera network, that would make an interesting dark dimension to kiffs otherwise whiter than satin niceness, thoughts?

Also has there ever been a zoidberg and anyoneelse shippy thread or discussion on these threads? and I do appreciatte that if zoiberg 'mates' at least with a fellow decapodian he dies, what happens of he cross species mates?

Postulate 4: Amy's a rich celeb. She's probably a year-3000 version of a much (MUCH!) more intelligent Paris Hilton. I'd think that these are pictures taken by the paparazzi.

Postulate 5: Many of those look like outdoor pics. Maybe Kif just used the Nimbus' long-range spy-cams on her last rendezvous with Earth.

I think this is the most likely scenario. Ignoring postulate 4 (which also has merit, I think), the others sound kind of creepy to me, especially for Kif.

He actually worked for PE for a short period of time; for all we know he could have taken those pictures himself (although I'm not sure how he would have worked up the nerve...).

It would at first site appear to be out of character for Kiff to do something that creepy. i always think though that people who are are really nice and quite on the surface must have some kind of dark side even if its something they do covertly.
Maybe its just too radical to develop Kiffs character along these lines.

I don't see how him being infertile would prevent him from dieing. Infertile people can still have sex it just can't result in pregnency.
