Let me go off topic for a sec, both PL, TKOS, TWIF and others set up for the relationship of Fry and Leela. The Sting was the last serious Fry/Leela episode aired before TDHAIPT. The Farnsworth Parabox was a Fry/Leela episode, but it wasn't as serious as The Sting.

You already said that, Bender_is_cool, not to be mean or anything. But to Shadowstar--Why do you hate "The Sting" so much anyway? It's a high-ranked episode behind "The Devil's Hands Are Idol Playthings" and everyone else that I know loves it?

Well, I'm not Shadowstar, but I hate "The Sting" too. I don't get what people love so much about it. The lack of humor? The forced emotion? The gimmicky and unmoving plot? Stop me if I guess it.

And no, I don't hate shippiness. "The Devil's Hands are Idle Playthings" is my second favorite episode.

It's quite sad and stupid to look to an episode of Futurama for realism. Especially if said episode is about a dog that can bark "I'm Walking on Sunshine."

I can understand that not everyone would be touched by this episode, but to say that the dog's behavior is "dumb" and "unrealistic" is just idiotic. This is a show which features a device that can smell objects in space, the disembodied head of Richard Nixon is the President, and his VP is the headless body of Spiro Agnew.

I'm aware that it is a cartoon, and that many things can happen, but we as viewers can pass judgment on the things that happen in cartoons. Some things make us cry and some things make us laugh. I just merely posted my opinion on Seymour waiting for Fry all those years and it made me laugh.

Sorry To Bring This Post Up Again...Not To Mention Someone May Have Already Said This, But I Love This Episode And Reading This "I could believe Seymour in waiting, days, weeks, and even months (six months the most) but years? Come on now." Cheesed Me Off, This Episode Was Based On An Actual Story, Where A Dog Layed By His Masters Grave For Years, Until The Dog Died Of Old Age. "but years? Come on now." You Better Believe It.

Yeah, yeah. The dog loyal to his dead master is a bit of an urban legend, but there is at least one famous true story from Japan that I posted here, including names, dates, places, and photographic evidence. Trust me, there are thousands of corroborating witnesses to this one. It friggin' happened.

That just proves that some dogs are stupid in real life, too.

I think we all need to rememeber that Seymour was a mut that never had anyone who cared about him. He was bonded with Fry because Fry accepted him.

Its like friendship in people. If you had few friend growing up, uyou're more likely to cherish the ones who were 'real friends'.

Seymour is loyalty. That he stayed waiting for Fry is just... Its a sweet sentiment. Maybe if people were a little more like that, the world would be a better place.

Yeah, I think you've nailed it there, the episode was so good at building up the friendship throughout, with Fry being kinda insecure and miserable before he met seymour, and really happy afterwards.

You seem like a big thinker YellowSubmarine, welcome to peel!

The ending was just cold... that song, the fact that I'd recently lost a pet, and the way he closed his eyes at the end just suggested a miserable death. Although now I think about it, the final scene couldn't have shown him dying, because he was fossilied in an upright position, still at the time it was so depressing.

And yet its one of my favourites from season four, too many of the episodes just seemed rushed, Jurassic Bark actually took its time with the story between Fry and Seymour, so people really cared by the end.

And yes, I cried like a big girl during the end credits... :o

I reckon there are some resemblance between Seymour and ‘White Fang.’ I like this episode, the dog definitely bonded with Fry so he waited for him all those years. Anyway there was Fry's ex boss to feed him so he never needed to find himself a new owner, and that was the place he knew where Fry regularly would be at and so that's where he waited until he died.
‘White Fang’ also went back for Ethan Hawk but the difference is he found him.

I wouldnt call seymour stupid, i would call him loyal. I find the ending of jurassic bark sad, with the years passing by, and the very, very end of him closing his eyes. That song made me sad to, and great, i now have said sad song stuck in my head.Oh, i made myself sad.

OK, this is a very, very old, dead thread. But I couldn't read it without commenting!

I always assumed that Seymour was based on the real dog, Greyfriar's Bobby. You can read it at the link below. And to those of you who said no dog would to that in RL, think again!!

He fossilised in that position because rigor mortis made his legs stick out.

By the way, I hear that theyre going to have Seymour in one of the DVD movies.

I really agree with fryfan I didn't get upset at the end of Jurrasic Bark to I also thought it was quite stupid of Seymour, as fryfan has mentioned I think the The Luck Of The Fryish has a MUCH more upsetting and emotional ending by a wide margin!

i think "luck of the fryish" "the sting" and "jurrasic bark" were all very moving. i would have to say that jurrasic bark moved me the most followed by luck of the fryish but not for the same reasons. jurrasic bark was just a moving and sad story where luck of the fryish told a little more about fry and his family after he was gone.

2)Luck of the Fryish
3) The Sting
4)Leelas Homeworld

Hmm not a bad list there, for mine it would probably be:

1) The Luck Of The Fryish
2) Jurrasic Bark
3) Leela's Homeworld
4) The Sting
5) Time keeps on Slipping

That's not how rigor mortis works. Rigor mortis the stiffening and "setting" of a corpse some time following death. It is a strictly temporary thing, and would not last long enough to become the template for fossilisation even if it was the cause of Seymour being fossilised in an upright position. What is far more likely is that the dog died, and the carcass was disturbed just prior to the flash-fossilisation process. So long as the fossilisation happened within a few days of death, but after a good few hours, rigor mortis would not have been any kind of a factor.

I needed to comment on that, because it was by far the most ridiculous thing I've read on PEEL in at least a fortnight.

Alternately he was likely buried (by Pennucci in the basmente of the pizza place) wrapped up in plastic bags in a 'standing' position which was then held in place by the dirt.

Maybe then, just maybe, it were the whole flash fossiliasation that killed the poor bugger, like in Pompeii when that volcano erupted, there wasn't enough time to do anything and so they were fossilised as they stood, like WOOOOSH! You're a fossil bitch!
