I think Seymour was meant to be a sort of parallel to Fry. Haven't you ever heard that pets take after their owners? One of Fry's most endearing and admirable qualities is his loyalty. It's easy to see him making a similar sacrifice, despite its irrationality, for Leela, isn't it?

Seymour saw Fry in the cryogenics lab. So oviously that would have been after Fry Told seymour to wait for him. we saw lots of scenes of Seymour looking for Fry. before he found him in the cryo lab. So he obviously didn't wait for Fry he looked for him a little found him, got kicked out of the building and gave up.
So I guess Seymour presumed Fy would be able to get out somehow but he still looked for him first.

Precisley, he figured Fry would be able to get out and therefore waited for him outside of Panuccis like Fry told him to do.

Seymour wasn't a dumb dog at all, I found him to be very smart because he knew how to sing "Walking On Sunshine" and he was really loyal because he waited there for 12 years after Fry got frozen.

Without reading all this thread, I'll just say that IMFFHO you are forgetting that Futurama is a fiction show and not RL, and as such you shouldn't be expecting a fictional dog to behave like its RL analogue.

I cant believe anyone would call seymore dumb. I agree with a lot of others that say he was being loyal to fry and doing what he was told. Plus he was the cutest cartoon dog i have ever seen. compare him to Matt Groenings other dog creation, santas little helper, talk about a dumb dog. I think that there is a big difference between loyalty and stupidity.

The end is quite touching for those who have had or do have a dog as a pet. We can witness first hand the true loyalty of a "dumb" animal. Canned eggs impresses me with the reference to Odessyus's dog. There are plenty of examples of smart animals- look at Mr Ed!!!

I may have a dog, but the end of that episode touched me in all the wrong places. But it's not so much that the dog is dumb, but it must have emotional issues. To not have found someone new by the time of death just seems like the inability to let go. Any psychiatrists speak dog?

Every time I see this episode, I have to go outside and give my dog a big hug.  I just think that he'd do the same for me as Seymour did for Fry.

For his sake, I need to avoid being frozen.

I just saw Jurassic Bark and I still believe in my original opinion of Seymour. He was a dumb dog. One point made on this thread was that Seymour knew that Fry was frozen at Cryogenics and made that scene of Seymour waiting for Fry meaningless.  Why is he waiting for Fry, if he knows where he is?  Frozen at the Cryo-genics lab.  If they had cut that scene of Fry's parents dragging Seymour away from Fry's tube, then we could say that he didn't know where Fry was period and would had convinced me a little more that he would've waited that long for Fry.


Imagine in LOTF if Fry knew he had a nephew, named after him, before he dug up the grave and read what was on the tombstone.  It would not be as touching as it is right now.  Jurassic Park was not that well written as LOTF, with that mistake of Seymour seeing Fry frozen "before" he's waiting for him at Panucci's.

Not necessarily.  Have you heard of the true story of Greyfriars Bobby who, when his owner died, spent his next 14 years on or around his owners grave in Greyfriars churchyard in Edinburgh in Scotland until his own death, reputedly on that grave in 1872.
He slept there every night no matter what the weather was like.  Local people fed him.  His story can be read at http://www.greyfriarsbobby.co.uk/story/story.html  and many other websites.
A statue and a drinking fountain for dogs was built to commemorate him and is still standing.

David X. Cohen on the Jurassic Bark commentary read a comment from a fan.  This is what he read.

"If you don't get teary from watching the end of Jurassic Bark, you are a cold hearted bastard."

I may be a cold hearted bastard, but Seymour is still a dumb dog.  Though, I did get teary, from laughing at the final scene and therefore that statement may not apply to me.

FYI- The reason why I put down Seymour is because he let Futurama down in winning an emmy.  Regardless of what circumstances were, Jurassic Bark disappointed me.  If they had used The Why In Fry, then perhaps they would've won the emmy.

Jurassic Bark its the saddest and also the best Futurama ep.  It takes seriuos talent to write an episode that cuts back and forth between a 1000yr time gap, so kudos to the writing team of Futurama!

Hello everyone,

I'm a little late for the party here.  I've bought all four dvd sets (last one just came up last week in Canada). 
It was 18 months ago I held my 14 year old dog, Frank while the vet was giving him a shot to let him "go away" because his back legs made him cry and cry...  Being a loner, I was devastated.  I still am at times. 
I never expected what I saw on Futurama.  I just wanna add my voice to all of yours and say how much I was touched.  I think it's even changing me as a person. 
As idiotic as it may sound - right this morning I was thinking of starting a web site about Seymour...

no, Seymour definately was not stupid. He knew "Walking on Sunshine" and he found Fry in the Applied Cryogenics building and brought Fry's parents there...(although they were too stupid to notice their son right in front of them)

It's a bad feeling to lose someone who shared a part of life with you. I didn't have a pet myself but it did hurt me, when my friends dog was "put down" three years ago. It (Bodo) was 14 years old and suffered from cancer.

Jurassic Bark has moved me so much inside that at moments I feel like a different person.  I've been listen to all the versions of "I will wait for you" and it's like I'm drugged on that song...  Anyone went through that phase?

I cried at the end when I first saw it, and I cried over and over and over again because Seymour is a loyal dog, dammit! It's because of that song and Seymour die slowly through it!     
   If Seymour is a stupid dog, then WHY would he care so much about Fry? Why would he look for him? Why would he follow Fry everywhere he goes?
  I say to all who are not moved by the end, please watch that episode again and again until you are moved.

What did seymour exhibit that made you think he was dum? I think that it would be more unusual if he had realized that Fry was frozen and he wasn't coming back. That would probably be a bigger strech if Seymour could comprehend the fact that he wasn't coming back because he was in Cryo Stasis. The ending of "Jurrasic Bark" seemed more logical then you probably think.

If the first thing that came to your mind at the end of that episode was, "Wow, what a dum dog", you probably missed the big picture.

Seymour had no one else in his life who loved him like Fry. So, he just waited and waited for him to come back. That's what dogs do. They wait for their masters, granted they've been kind and loving to them like Fry. I found the ending very touching, but I guess I can't change one's opinion. Different opinions make the world go 'round.
