The Goof Thread

This is the new thread to discuss all Futurama goofs rather than opening a new thread for each goof PEELers think of.
The fist one I can think of is in "When Aliens Attack," Earth's TV takes 1000 years to reach Omicron Persei 8. However, when the Omicronians contact Earth, they hear their voices seconds later on their TV. Shouldn't they only see themselves in 1000 years?

Hu? When they contact Earth from their ship they are in orbit.

Also isn't this FORUM for things like this, why open one topic. We'll have about 10 answers for different questions and get confused

They know it's a goof, and they explain it on the commentary.  In Futurama the speed of light has been increased, but on the commentary they decided that "Old" Light (and radio) moves at the old speed, but "New" light moves much faster.

Leela's wrist thingy disappears for a few seconds in Xmas Story. When she sings the line "from here to Pakistan" she put her hands down behind her body and the wrist thingy is gone.

I'm not sure if this can be considered a goof, because you can sort of cover for it a little if you use your imagination.

In "The Honking," after Leela and Fry weld Bender to the wall, both of them leave the apartment to go home. HOWEVER! Fry is Bender's roommate, so *where* exactly is he going? And, also, wouldn't you think that Leela or Fry would be smart enough not to *walk* home instead of using the transport tubes?

First, and most importantly, it advanced the plot.  I could thikn of a situation where Fry doesn't go out and Bender doesn't attack him, but I think what they had works better as a parody of a horror movie.  Second, Leela seems like the type of person who wouldn't mind a walk at night.  And Fry would just be going for a walk in the first place, so he wouldn't use the transport tubes.

My question is, if they went off in opposite directions, how did they find each other so quickly?

Still, if you know that there's even a slight possibility that you're going to be attacked by a manaical were-car, I'd probably hurry home as fast as possible and screw the nice night walk.

Also, it's kind of silly on their part to leave the apt. right around 12 am. Wouldn't it make more sense to weld Bender in the afternoon and have enough time to get home safe? I know, I know...it destroys the plot if that happens. Stupid conflict resolution.

Another thought, wouldn't it have been a bit considerate if Leela had asked Fry if he would like to sleep at her place (just sleep, nothing else). I mean, Fry is Benders roommate, and I can understand why he wont go back to the apartment, where a werecar is waiting to run him over. So what is the poor guy supposed to do? Wander the streets of New New York, the entire night? Wake up Hermes, and ask if he can stay there? Come on Leela, be nice to the poor guy.

Yeah, what the hell is wrong with Leela?  Unless Fry is just gonna go sleep on the boardroom table at PE like he did early on.

Yeah.  It's kinda amazing the way they wrote Fry and Leela as to both be losers, but for opposite reasons.

I'm not sure if this is a goof or what, but I was re-watching "X-Mas Story" this afternoon, and I noticed something. When Hermes has the mail-call, everyone (sans Leela) gets an X-Mas letter...

The goof is this..who sent Fry an X-Mas letter? Everyone he knows who would do something like that is right in the room with him, and we know he doesn't have any other relatives.

Is this just stupid, or did a wizard send it to him?

Also, Kif obviously learns was sex is like/loses his virginity in "Amazon Women in the Mood," yet in "Where the Buggalo Roam," he thinks kissing Amy is enough to say he's just "made love," as though he has no idea what sex really is.

Umm, no. Kif never had sex in AWITM. He clung to the ceiling of the room, until Amy came and rescued him.

Brannigan Begin Again is another issue, but maybe Hattie just wanted someone to talk to.

"The Day The Earth Stood Stupid" with the George Washington Head-In-Jar, the letters go from capitals to upper and lower case. Now thats a goof.

Well, do we really find out that Kif's first time in those rooms is when he jumps on the ceiling? He may have already been in there for a few times around...?

Another goof: In "Brannigan Begin Again," Hermes uses the phrase "Star Trek," but in "Where No Fan Has Gone Before," we find out that those words are banned.

Actually Fry said, where he was going, but the scene was cut out. (But that scene is included as a deleted scene on the Season 2 DVD. Same thing with the Xmas Card. This is also a deleted scene. )

Another thing I noticed in the DVD set. In Brannigan begin Again there are a few scenes where the Hyperchicken has a blue beak. It's during Zapp's cross-examination of Leela.

Today while watching 'AOI 1' I noticed a small mistake. Well, I think everyone knows that in Sruffy's very first appearance, in 'A Fishful Of Dollars' he had a brown mistosh. But ever since then he's had a grey one. But in AOI 1, in the long shot scene after Leela's impulsive story he had a brown one, and then in the next scene it was grey again.

I noticed a bit of a goof today as well while I was watching 'A Head in the Polls' In the episode of 'The Scary Door' that Fry and Bender are watching, that guy breaks his glasses, then loses his eyeballs, then his hands fall off and then his tongue falls out and then his head falls off. Well, when his head hits the floor, he says
'Hey, look at that wired mirror'
How could he have said that with no tongue? 

I know its just a cartoon and he shouldn't have been able to say it at all because his head fell off, but still..you know

In AOI, at the beginning of the 3rd chapter.  Fry rubbed the ice off of the Cryogenic Chamber revealing a body in the chamber, then shouts "Hello! Pizza delivery for I.C. Weiner".

When the exact same thing happens in SP3K, the body in the cryo-chamber is a different one (without glasses).

I could be wrong with this one, but in 'Put you head on my shoulders' when Fry and Amy are in the car, the guy who comes to tow them wipes the condensation from the glass roof from the outside. Shouldn't the condensation be on the inside of the car if Amy and Fry are in there? It would be their breathing that made the car steam up

Well, they WERE on Mercury... it was probably hotter outside the car than it was inside.

Worse is he wouldn't be connected to his lungs, so no breath could be passed though his vocal chords to produce any sounds.

I think they did a whole new part for that because I don't think they showed that clocktower counting down all the way in the background on Space Pilot 3000 either.

As to another thing, I was watching Bendless Love the other day, and when Bender bends the unbendable bar he says he's not programmed to lift things, AND yet, I think there are several areas where he indeed lifted objects (for example the nose off the pharoah in A Pharoah to Remember).....

Well the spooky door also is a tv show inside a tv show, they probobly had hordes of fans attacking their cyber space headcourters in minutes.

They showed a sequence from various countries counting down from 10 to 1, rather than the cllock tower. Also notice how Nibblers shadow is gone, but ofcourse this is the idea of the episode, it's all slightly different because Fry wont go to the future.

In the 'Leela's Homeworld' episode, we find out that if a normal human comes into contact with the water in the mutant's sewer it causes them to mutate. However earlier in 'I second that emotion' when Fry is tied up, one of the mutants cuts him free, he falls, a splash is heard, followed by him spluttering, and yet he didn't mutate.

In A Bicyclops Built for Two when fry is first in the cell the floor outside changes colour when he is shown in close up from a sandy colour to bluish green
