So, it'll be like canon, officially?
I really hope not. But if it is, I hope they release it as a stand-alone DVD/Blu-ray, I'm not buying an entire season of The Simpsons for one episode, just to complete my Futurama collection.

I get the impression that the Futurama staff are more involved with the crossover than we initially thought, based on that interview.
It certainly sounds like Matt has kept David X. Cohen in the loop, regarding it, and is taking a personal interest in the episode, anyway. That's good to know.
As for it being canon, it sounds like it won't really matter. It just seems like they're going to show up in the episode and it won't really make any impact on Futurama's world if it is canon or not. If it winds up ignoring the fact that both shows are TV shows within each other's universes, or if (as I expect it will be), it's awful, I'm going to choose to not consider it canon, but it really doesn't matter at this point.
It'd only matter if they were going to make new episodes and the events of this crossover would somehow factor into the new episodes. They're clearly making it completely stand-alone, going by their comments about how it probably takes place in the space of time that we didn't see due to the show being off the air (3004-3007).

Yeah. I think it'd be best if the episode is set to take place somewhere between Season 1 and 2 of Futurama's seasons, since they're planning to stick it onto the Futurama timeline. It'd be awesome to see Fry hanging out with Bart and doing pranks with him. I'd find it awesome if around the end of the episode before everybody leaves, If Fry asked Bart if he liked any girls yet, and brings up that he's starting to be a little fond of Leela. That would be a very well-played moment. It's likely that Bender will be hanging out with Homer, Hermes with Marge, Professor with Abe, Leela with Lisa, and Zoidberg with......Umm Gus maybe? Or Skinner?
Either way, I wouldn't say I'm really excited for this crossover, but I appreciate that they're actually going to be working pretty hard on this. And gives me hope that it might be the first really good Simpsons episode in a while. Because everybody involved with this that's from Futurama, worked for The Simpsons beforehand. So it does give me a little hope.
But the ending scenes of Meanwhile....... My god. It's just, damn.

I have no idea. There's three thousand and four ways they could play this. As long as it's good, I don't care. So, if Futurama does come back, it'll basically be like the show is starting from the beginning?

No. The professor said that they would all go back to the moment before he invented the time button. So the show would start from the beginning of "Meanwhile". If the show ever comes back, then I guess the professor just won't invent the time button.

Actually, he said it'd take them to the exact instant before he conceived of the Time Button, not before he invented it. We don't actually know how long he was working on the button for, he could've conceived of it decades before 3013, or he could of conceived of it a few days before the events of "Meanwhile". *edit* Like tnuk said: We don't know, however, what that instant might be. It could even be as far back as when Fry was still in the freezer that the professor conceived the idea. We do know that Farnsworth sometimes spends years mulling over inventions, and that a previous attempt at a time machine was something he worked on for a decade and a half.

Oh. Come to think of it, I do remember him using the word "conceived" now. Still, I'm pretty sure that a revived series would begin where the show left off, or maybe a few years later so that it would take place exactly one thousand years in the future, just like last time.

While browsing through some old threads in General Discussion, I found out that some Futurama fans were joking around about banding together and sending anchovies to Fox until they brought back the show. They got this idea from fans of another show who apparently sent in bottle after bottle of tabasco sauce until its network brought it back. So I guess in this case people would send in countless anchovies to Comedy Central. But who would actually be crazy enough to do that? http://www.peelified.com/Futurama-Forum-1/Topic-9040-0-The_Tabasco_Sauce_of_Futu.html

We're veering off course, Captain! What should we do? Let's turn this thread around back to news, you can discuss the episodes in their own specialized threads Or, the General Futurama Discussion thread if comparing multiple episodes.

I was in the minority of people who liked SMFP too, Anna.
Now veering on course, there's been some interviews spreading youtube. One has Matt and David, and some writers from the show answering questions before Futurama Live. Another one I saw is an interview with Maurice Lamarche, he admitted Jurassic Bark was his favorite episode, as well as the Lrrr episode from Season 6 is his favorite episode, because he did so much on it, and he's currently going through a midlife crisis.

^ Dude, I loved SMFP. The only episode that I'm not big on is "Lethal Inspection." There isn't an episode of Futurama I wouldn't watch again.

What is the deal with Futurama Live, anyway? Was it actually broadcast on television anywhere or was it just a one-off online steam?
