Has there been any news on the Volume 8 set? It's unusual not to hear anything before the season ends.

'Futurama' isn't completely over: Creators talk 'Simpsons' crossover

Quote from: David X. Cohen
This is what I would say: I mean, we were canceled for several years. I think the crossover episode probably happened then, because can you imagine how many exciting adventures happened in those years that we never heard about? It's got to have fallen in there somewhere.
So, it'll be like canon, officially?

I really hope not. :( But if it is, I hope they release it as a stand-alone DVD/Blu-ray, I'm not buying an entire season of The Simpsons for one episode, just to complete my Futurama collection.

I get the impression that the Futurama staff are more involved with the crossover than we initially thought, based on that interview.

It certainly sounds like Matt has kept David X. Cohen in the loop, regarding it, and is taking a personal interest in the episode, anyway. That's good to know.

As for it being canon, it sounds like it won't really matter. It just seems like they're going to show up in the episode and it won't really make any impact on Futurama's world if it is canon or not. If it winds up ignoring the fact that both shows are TV shows within each other's universes, or if (as I expect it will be), it's awful, I'm going to choose to not consider it canon, but it really doesn't matter at this point.

It'd only matter if they were going to make new episodes and the events of this crossover would somehow factor into the new episodes. They're clearly making it completely stand-alone, going by their comments about how it probably takes place in the space of time that we didn't see due to the show being off the air (3004-3007).

Yeah. I think it'd be best if the episode is set to take place somewhere between Season 1 and 2 of Futurama's seasons, since they're planning to stick it onto the Futurama timeline. It'd be awesome to see Fry hanging out with Bart and doing pranks with him. I'd find it awesome if around the end of the episode before everybody leaves, If Fry asked Bart if he liked any girls yet, and brings up that he's starting to be a little fond of Leela. That would be a very well-played moment. It's likely that Bender will be hanging out with Homer, Hermes with Marge, Professor with Abe, Leela with Lisa, and Zoidberg with......Umm Gus maybe? Or Skinner?

Either way, I wouldn't say I'm really excited for this crossover, but I appreciate that they're actually going to be working pretty hard on this. And gives me hope that it might be the first really good Simpsons episode in a while. Because everybody involved with this that's from Futurama, worked for The Simpsons beforehand. So it does give me a little hope.

But the ending scenes of Meanwhile....... My god. It's just, damn.

I have no idea. There's three thousand and four ways they could play this. As long as it's good, I don't care.
So, if Futurama does come back, it'll basically be like the show is starting from the beginning?

No. The professor said that they would all go back to the moment before he invented the time button. So the show would start from the beginning of "Meanwhile". If the show ever comes back, then I guess the professor just won't invent the time button.

No. The professor said that they would all go back to the moment before he invented the time button. So the show would start from the beginning of "Meanwhile".

Actually, he said it'd take them to the exact instant before he conceived of the Time Button, not before he invented it. We don't actually know how long he was working on the button for, he could've conceived of it decades before 3013, or he could of conceived of it a few days before the events of "Meanwhile".

*edit*

Like tnuk said:

We don't know, however, what that instant might be. It could even be as far back as when Fry was still in the freezer that the professor conceived the idea. We do know that Farnsworth sometimes spends years mulling over inventions, and that a previous attempt at a time machine was something he worked on for a decade and a half.

Oh. Come to think of it, I do remember him using the word "conceived" now.

Still, I'm pretty sure that a revived series would begin where the show left off, or maybe a few years later so that it would take place exactly one thousand years in the future, just like last time.

I doubt petitions will do much other than show whatever company that alot of people would actually watch futurama should they bring it back.

However, I do think it'd be worthwhile for us to start our own petition............
Maybe we can all streak through the Netlix headquarters screaming, "Bring Back Futurama!"

My most loved episodes of 2010-2013 are:

Lethal Inspection
Proposition Infinity
Silence Of The Clamps
Mobius Dick
Six Million Dollar Mon
The Thief of Baghead
Calculon 2.0
The Inhuman Torch

Saw those last two in a marathon.  At least there's the comics.

While browsing through some old threads in General Discussion, I found out that some Futurama fans were joking around about banding together and sending anchovies to Fox until they brought back the show. They got this idea from fans of another show who apparently sent in bottle after bottle of tabasco sauce until its network brought it back.

So I guess in this case people would send in countless anchovies to Comedy Central.

But who would actually be crazy enough to do that?

^I feel a bit stupid for liking SMFP so much now after seeing that it seems to be disdained by most people here. It wasn't a meaningful episode at all, but it kept me laughing throughout the entire thing...then again I also enjoyed "That's Lobstertainment" and watch the Kardashians voluntarily, so my opinion may not be worth much.

Opinions aren't usually stupid, not if you can reasonably explain them. I think SMFP was episode that split the opinions. I didn't like it much, because it wasn't executed very well as Reincarnation was.

I liked SMFP, but I'm generally more forgiving of non-canon episodes than everyone else seems to be.

Plus, I find That's Lobstertainment to be rather underrated. Sure, it's not the best episode but I don't think it's as terrible as lots of people claim it is. It seems to fit into that category that several season 3 episodes fit into of a mediocre episode that's not that great the first time, but starts to grow on you after a while.

Let's turn this thread around back to news, you can discuss the episodes in their own specialized threads :) Or, the General Futurama Discussion thread if comparing multiple episodes.

I was in the minority of people who liked SMFP too, Anna.

Now veering on course, there's been some interviews spreading youtube. One has Matt and David, and some writers from the show answering questions before Futurama Live. Another one I saw is an interview with Maurice Lamarche, he admitted Jurassic Bark was his favorite episode, as well as the Lrrr episode from Season 6 is his favorite episode, because he did so much on it, and he's currently going through a midlife crisis.
