It was the same date that Space Pilot 3000 premiered and when we learned that Futurama was renewed for Season 7, so people are going by this theory of it being the special birthdate that Futurama news will be revealed.

I'd say that date is the deadline of when they'll finally announce something then. Not as a fact, but it seems likely.

It's probably because they don't 100% know for sure that they're cancelled or not. They may still be meeting with Comedy Central working out negotiations on what to do, possibly doing something different from the 26 episodes they did these past two seasons.

Lauren Tom (Amy) was doing some DVD/Blu-Ray commentaries today. She was with David X Cohen and Matt Groening https://twitter.com/LaurenTom9000/status/314147680840458241 , and I asked her "the question"...

She said "Don't know yet! Hope so!": https://twitter.com/LaurenTom9000/status/314223002965389312

Well, I guess that's slightly good news, though, right? I feel like if it was definitely cancelled, she would have been more evasive, so that gives some hope.

This year, they are recording the commentaries for Volume 8 DVDs so early... Usually they do this in the autumn, if I recall correctly. It seems they have nothing else to do right now :(.

Futurama will definitely be cancelled. This is because all the best stuff dies and all the worst stuff lives on. Take the simpsons - been absolutely terrible for over 10 years, yet it still keeps going and going. The cleveland show has so far been 4 seasons too long (has it been cancelled yet or what?)

Out of all the animated adult shows, Futurama definitely has the most endless possibilities for plots and ideas. Yet, it will be the one that goes. Because that's how the world is - utterly tasteless.

Well, I mean The Simpsons used to be great. Futurama could always follow it's lead and just get really shitty. Optimism!

Also, Cleveland Show is very likely to be cancelled according to TV By The Numbers. It hasn't yet been renewed, and would need to be by now in order for it to start on time in the fall.

It just says likely to be cancelled, not certain. Not very either.
There's a slight chance that the next few ratings will pull us another season, but with the 13-episode order of Murder Police, I don't see any room for Cleveland.

Also, I just heard that the Queen of the Andals and the Rhoynar and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Shackles/Chains, Queen of Meereen and Princess of Dragonstone will be guest starring this season.

That's awesome! I can't wait to watch!

It's not even like Futurama would be dying young at this point. I mean, don't get me wrong, I really want to see it continue rather than coming to an end this year, but seven seasons and 140 shows is nothing to sniff at. Plenty of hit shows don't make it that far. It's not like Police Squad! or Freaks and Geeks or something where it's clearly being cut down in its infancy. Even 72 episodes was nothing to be ashamed of, though it was a lot more tragic than ending at 140.

Jarvio's logic only makes sense if you assume that all good shows should just go on forever and ever, rather than eventually ending as all things do. I don't know about you, but as much as I'd like to see season 8 of Futurama, I really don't think we need season 50 or season 100 or season 1000.

Yep, Emilia Clarke will be guest starring in "Stench and Stenchability" this year. It seems she voiced Zoidberg's human girlfriend there.

When The Simpsons came on television was pretty much a wasteland. What other TV comedy was even good throughout the 90s? Seinfeld is one of the few I can think of.

I actually think TV is better now than it was then. Bearing in mind tons of it is still garbage, but that's also always been true.

What other TV comedy was even good throughout the 90s?

One Foot in the Grave (1990-1999)
Red Dwarf (1990-1999)
The Larry Sanders Show (1992-1998)
Beavis & Butt-head (1993-1999)
The Day Today (1994)
Friends (1994-1999)
Knowing Me Knowing You with Alan Partridge (1994-1995)
Father Ted (1995-1998)
The Adam & Joe Show (1996-1999)
Pond Life (1996-1999)
Brass Eye (1997)
Daria (1997-1999)
I'm Alan Partridge (1997)
King of the Hill (1997-1999)
South Park (1997-1999)
Big Train (1998)
Bob and Margaret (1998-1999)
The Royle Family (1998-1999)
Family Guy (1999)
Futurama (1999)
Home Movies (1999)
Spaced (1999)

And Seinfeld was garbage.

THROUGHOUT. So I'm not counting shows that had extremely short runs or premiered very late in the decade.

Also, Family Guy and Friends were/are garbage.

I wasn't saying The Simpsons and Seinfeld were the only two, though. But you'll notice most of that list is made up of shows that weren't really big hits. As far as 90s comedies that had substantial runs, the pickings are fairly slim. I guess Roseanne would be one. I've heard good things about Newsradio.

I'm a huge, huge fan of South Park, but I find the first 2-3 seasons (the 90s ones, basically) to be pretty weak for the most part.

I also wasn't really factoring in British television for the record, though (otherwise I'd have to factor in most world television probably), so there's that. As far as American consumption of it goes, British TV wasn't really a huge force in American pop culture until the 2000s, outside of a few shows. The internet, DVDs, etc have made it easier to import them, so we're no longer relegated to the few shows PBS decides to play late at night like we were as recently as the 90s.
