1st act was really good. Love all the callbacks. And I love seeing Fry's family. My Promblem: Pick up NNY and fly it into space?!?! There are so many things wrong with this. But I'm too lazy to point them out, so I'll let everyone else do that. Everything else was pretty good. Ending was sweet! Now bundle up, I don't want you getting frozen Awwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!

Hey guys, I've been away/lurking for a while. Favorite of season 6B for sure. (Apparently best episode ever on CGEF for now) Wrapping NNY up felt a lot like The Simpsons Movie but it worked well enough. Loved the callbacks to The Luck of the Fryrish. Only thing that was disappointing was no naked Leela. Mr. Panucci sounded off too, didn't he?

everyone read Futurama Comics Issue 11, The Cure For the Common Clod. That had a more funnier story of Fry having the Common Cold. FYI Leela gets naked.
Yes, I missed that as well. (Even though you couldn't see the "naughty bits", there were a few funny scenes in the comic --- Fry inside the bubble, trying to keep an eye on Leela, but the bubble keeps steaming over.) This is a feel-good episode. It's good to have a few of these every now and then. When Hermes said "It IS worse!", was it his turn to panic? Also, using a cooler in the wintertime seems a bit redundant. (I guess keeps the beer from freezing --- notice that both times Fry was drinking beer, it was Lobrau?) And there was white stuff on the ground and lake; anyone know what this was?

Awesome ep, funny, had heart, great plot, nice twists, good ending, sci-fi. This was just all-round great, and the flashbacks really helped flesh it out and make it that extra bit deeper. Everyone was in character, and Morbo finally appeared again and was hilarious! I liked that fresh bait on the ice joke near the beginning, and also when Bender stole that charity box because everyone was more pre-occupied with the cold. Putting all of Manhattan in quarantine was interesting, and it meant Zapp could come back! Also we had Wernstrom! All good, and it all wrapped up just about without feeling too forced, it had heart...

He's probably called "Kenny"... About the episode: Yep, good one. Old school feeling to it and featuring many secondary characters. There was still a slight touch of "rushedness", but within acceptable means.

Really liked how this turned out, this one will be getting rewatched a lot. 9/10 The "common cold" plotline from the comics was one of the cooler sci-fi ideas that they had, so I'm glad to see it made it into the main show. I was half-expecting it to be really deadly or have weird effects in the future, but having it be harmless with everyone over-reacting was even funnier. Glad that they managed to introduce some epic sci-fi to what could have been quite a plain episode too, with the cutting out of manhattan and tractor-beaming it into space. That was cool. And I know we're always complaining about too many pop culture references, but the biggest laugh this episode for me was Leela telling Fry, "I knew that offhand; I'm Facebooking right now." The line-reading just killed me.
Yeah, Leela's lines were great... I also laughed at "I found the satellite!" just for the deadpan way that the line was delivered.

So no one mentioned yet how Barack Obama was the Pizza delivery guy in 1988?
Especially with Fry commenting "I'm not gonna be a loser like that guy."

Josh Gedgie reminded me of JoshTheater. In a bad way.
I chuckled when Wernstrom said 'and this is a Verizon coverage map'. The mentions of Twitter, Verizon and Facebook hardly bothered me. Although, the mention of Twitter was in the opening captions.

Hah, Danny, I totally thought of you and the other Tweetin' PEELers when I saw the opening caption. It got a chuckle from me, actually, which doesn't usually happen with the captions. This season, though, I've noticed that they've been really amusing; a few others got a laugh from me, too, though I'm too lazy to give any examples.
And as far as this episode's similarity to "The Cure for the Common Clod" goes: the only time I was kind of reminded of the comic was when Bender was spreading Zoidberg's mucus everywhere, since in the comic they find a way to cure the cold using mutant antibodies in this big ol' viscous glob of snot. (Uh, spoiler alert.)
Honestly, though, not one part of this episode seemed cribbed from the comics, with the obvious exception of, well, Fry reintroducing the common cold to society. The execution was one hundred percent different, and definitely more satisfying.

I was actually reminded of an episode of Scrubs where there's disease running rampant in the hospital, and those who have been afflicted have this radioactive, greenish glow haloing the contagious parts of their bodies.
I've never seen that episode of Spongebob, though. I do remember the episode where Spongebob had a cold and he was this gray-yellow color and he kept sneezing and they had to plug him up with all these corks or something. That really happened, right?
And Danny: I think it was "For the Sophisticated Shut-In" and "The One Bright Spot in Your Life!" that made me laugh, probably because both statements are so very, very true.

I'm glad there were no gross bloody close-ups or overly wacky jokes like in The Tip of the Zoidberg. Futurama eps don't need them, this was far better without them ...

Wait wait wait... Wasn't the EXACT story already a Futurama comic?
What the hell, man?
Analysis says: No. In both stories the cold had been eradicated but was brought back by Fry, the similarity ended there. In "Cure for the Common Clod" the cold virus put everyone in a primal state and it formed big amoeba / phlegm clumps that threatened the city until the mutants were infected and their antibody amoebas were able to destroy them. Also the robots were somehow effected by the end of it. Wait. I thought the comics are non-canon? Or do I have tons of reading to do?
They are non-canon, as indicated by writers of the show when discussing the fact that this episode is similar to a comic plot line. There's only two things known to have carried over to the show; Space Boy comics and Hattie's last name. Comic stuff can be considered canon if it is minor and doesn't conflict with the show's information on a topic. Heck, there's only been two things that've carried over between comics, excluding Time Bender Trilogy and Crossover Crisis. This episode was good, at least on par with Clod, probably better if only due to it being animated. It was probably more scientifically sound than the comic too. Although the comic did have a sorority lingerie rave and a naked Leela. Yeah, I prefer the episode. 9/10

Another thing I noticed, if Fry was born in 1974, he would've been 14 in this episode, like me! (And Nibblonian Leader, CommanderZapp and others.)
