First act reaction: well, seen most of it already. But it was nice seeing the Frys again! Also, things seem to be happening at a good pace so far.

Nice to see the return of Fry's parents, Yancy, Smitty, and Fry's seven leaf clover. Lotsa nostalgia.

Really great start. Because of this whole airing-out-of-order thing, it's kind of funny that two episodes have started with flashbacks--but the ones we've seen so far are pretty great. I love the callback to the seven leaf clover, and the interaction between the members of the Fry family is great. Solid so far...hoping the next two acts are just as good.

The part where Fry's gerbil lands in Fry's dads' bath, and he salutes it? Gotta be the funniest part of the episode, if not the season.

I actually thought the montage worked really well; Yancy Sr. saluting the guinea pig in the bathtub got a chuckle from me. The only thing that bothered me (and it's a dumb complaint, really) is how I was reminded of the Simpsons movie when they plastic-wrapped all of Manhattan (that shot of the wall created by the container and the laser cutting through the pavement in particular seemed reminiscent of the movie to me). It seemed kind of derivative, but it's definitely not enough to sour me on the episode. I'm excited to see where they go from here.

Haha, the second the montage started I was like "cue complaint on PEEL" and look what's here! I don't mind the montages though, I think they're always pretty strong and this one was particularly good.

The first two parts gave me the impression that Yancy Sr. was a douche. The third part showed me he's a douche with a heart. Like tnuk. My favorite episode out of 6b. 9/10

Oh, wow, I really liked the final act of this one. Thought it wrapped it all up really nicely! The flashbacks were used better in this one than they were in Tip of the Zoidberg (dumb broadcast sequence, why would anyone think it was a good idea to show those two next to each other?) I thought the very end was kind of out of Yancy Sr.'s character but it was still very sweet. Interested to hear what everyone else thought of it.

I thought this one was great! Going to flashbacks from Fry's old life was much needed this season, we haven't seen that in an episode for a while. Had some touching moments, especially between Fry and his dad. We see the 7 leaf clover again. And Fry did save the day! Haha, i just really enjoyed this one. Hope others did too! :D Favorite episode out of 6B.

I find it funny that everyone has been bitching recently about the montages. I watched the first two seasons the past week, and saw plenty of them.

Anyway episodes over. First act was a little shaky, but the second and third acts were solid.

Easily the best episode of the season so far. I knew it was headed for an "Awww" moment when Leela was consoling Fry at the end of the episode--and, surprisingly, Yancy Sr. having that cute father-son moment with Fry didn't seem too forced. The episode had played up Yancy's disappointment in his son, so it was nice to see him explaining why he gives Fry such a hard time at the end of the episode. Definitely a sweet ending.

And I know we're always complaining about too many pop culture references, but the biggest laugh this episode for me was Leela telling Fry, "I knew that offhand; I'm Facebooking right now." The line-reading just killed me. But the episode was consistently hilarious, I thought, and definitely worthy of numerous rewatches. I was really excited for this one, and it didn't disappoint.

Total agreement. I feel like I should be annoyed by that line but I laughed out loud. So sue me. I also thought Obama in Panucci's was pretty funny.

Oh, also I thought Linda was hilarious for some reason. I can't even remember exactly why, I was just really struck by her magician line when the screen's sideways.

I liked the episode...It was nostalgic, plausible, and wasn't full of too many annoying references. I always like seeing more of Fry's past, so I enjoyed seeing another side to his childhood. I did love the montage, it was hilarious. I also liked Yancy, Sr.'s line at the end "I don't want you getting frozen."  :p

However, this episode felt rushed. Even more than "The Tip of the Zoidberg." I couldn't believe it was over so fast. But the emotional scene at the end didn't feel as forced as the ones between Farnsworth and Zoidberg in the previous episode, at least from my point of view. It seemed genuine.  So the rushing didn't exactly detract from the viewing. Everything came full circle, and everything got wrapped up the way it should have. It just made me wish there was a little more to it. But then again, the good episodes always seem to feel short. I'll need to rewatch it again to see how the pacing is, but this one is up there in my favorites of the season so far.

I agree, Gorky, this is probably the best episode of the season. We'll see if Overclockwise will top this (and I'm expecting it to, although I don't want to set my expectations too high...just in case.) The season will hopefully go out on a high note with the last few episodes.  :)

I felt like it was fast-paced but it wasn't actually rushed, if you know what I mean? Like, I think they got everything in that they needed to and the proportions of time spent on every part of the story were about perfect. I thought the story got going quickly and didn't end abruptly, though there was a lot of jumping around in the middle. I wouldn't say it had pacing issues, it just moved things along quickly.

Oh, and I decided on 9/10.

I agree about the pacing being good. I think the episode benefited from not trying to cram too much in--the flashbacks progressed nicely, as did the quarantine/vaccination stuff. That's probably because the writers used the supporting characters sparingly, and kept the story focused on what was happening with Fry; the science fair stuff and the hysteria about the common cold dovetailed near the episode's end in a predictable but smooth way.

I mean, a lot happens in the episode, to be sure--but it's all relevant to the plot. There were no random tangents, nor an overuse of supporting characters or an overlong, unrelated set-piece of an opening. And the episode didn't seem to go by too quickly, or putt along in fits and starts, because the writing was tighter.

I too thought, "Doh-ome!" as soon as the plastic wrap was draped over the city.

Great episode, and I think a large part of my enjoyment was due to the continuity with past episodes (the parents and Yancy, the lucky clover, etc).

But while I almost always love the unexpected heartstrings-tugging endings, this one felt pretty artificial to me. Fry's dad is pretty one-dimensional throughout--unceasingly belligerent and harsh--and then for him to have this surprising, emotional revelation? Random and out of left field.

However, that was just one annoying cloud in a pretty clear sky of viewing pleasure. I voted conservatively and gave an 8/10, though I might bump that up after another viewing.

Also, what's going on with Kif and Amy?

I did think about Kif, but I think trying to add in stuff with Kif would have cluttered the plot. Like Gorky said, focusing on random supporting characters tends to be disruptive to the flow of the episode.

Yeah, I was gonna say something about having two flashback episodes in a row, but they have no control over the order in which Crazy Central airs the episodes.

Other than that, I can't really find anything wrong with the episode, which I guess makes it one of the better episodes of this season.

Very good episode. The ending (none flashback) was kinda predictable soon, but it still very nice.

Cool to see the 7 leaf clover again, and more of Fry in the past with his family, very good.
The stuff that happened in Futurama time was rather mediocre and just added a nice story to support the flashback. But that it did very well and also didn't distract from it.
The flashback was very well done again, seeing a different aged Fry and for once Fry wasn't a complete idiot when grown up.

Overall a good episode, gotta watch again tomorrow before rating it.

Also, wasn't it very Charlie and the Chocolate Factory-ish for all the sickies to be smushed in one bed like that? Didn't the grandparents sleep like that in both the original and new version?

Kinda made me want to be sick, if only to be waited on by my "robot" (husband).

Eh, how upset can he be about killing his girlfriend when he's already helping to murder an entire city full of innocent people?  Remember, the DOOP is the Futurama equivalent of the UN; you probably have to have at least a little bit of disregard for the value of human life to work there.

Quite touching, quite funny. I liked it. Not quite as much as TLPJF, but I still liked it a lot. It's episodes like this that keep me watching despite the Yo Leela Leelas and the Holiday Spectaculars.

Loved the animation, loved the visuals. Wasn't quite so keen on Wernstrom being the Surgeon General. Is he the only government scientist now?

I think they are considered non-canon, but not sure on that one.

On some thread we had a discussion about the fact that there was already a comic with this premise. A lot of people said they didn't really mind because it was an interesting story.
