ATOTKA wasn't among the best episodes Futurama has ever produced but it's more than passable.

Aside from the indescribably awful Susan Boil joke the rest of the episode was rather good. Sadly such was the jarringly crap nature of the aforementioned boil joke I fear it's tarred the episode for many.

Still, it just goes to show that totalnerduk is a pretentious prick who does not understand taste.</ad hominem>

Despite the obvious personal attacks, I do not agree with him.  But I doubt I can change his mind.  He is one stubborn Brit... I mean Englishmen... I mean Anglo-Saxon.  Eh, actually, I don't know his origins.

Three out of the last four episodes have been "best of the season so far" episodes. Prop Infinity, Lethal Inspection, and now The Late Philip J Fry. I sure hope they can keep this up!

I'll try to make a list and explain my choices so that some more thought goes into my post.

1. The late Phillip J. Fry - I don't know what to say, I think this episode managed to be extremely funny yet touching at the same time. I don't think any Futurama episode ever before managed it as much as this. On top of that, it had a great musical number.

2. Lethal Inspection - Similar but this episode was less "touching" but just as funny. Definitely another top notch episode.

3. Proposition Infinity - Funniest of the season so far. Sometimes the story felt a little silly or outlandish but the sheer amount of jokes propelled it out of any negative terrain it may have rested in.

4. The Duh-Vinci Code - An interesting episode, very different and I like it.

5. In-A-Gadda-Da-Leela - Great Zapp episode. Not groundbreaking but a great stand alone adventure. The ending seemed strange to me, though.

6. Attack of the Killer App - Everything in this episode is very good except for the Susan Boyle jokes, which seem a little dated. I won't lie though, the episode has plenty of laughs, even some associated with the gag.

7. Rebirth - This isn't by any means a bad episode, but I just can't look at it any other way than, "Futurama is back!" I suppose since the show has been back on for a while now, the excitement over its return has dwindled somewhat and it has once again become established. For a reintroduction episode, however, it is pretty decent.

The next three episodes, in particular the Robot Evolution episode, all sound promising.

The Late Philip J. Fry was the best of the new episodes so far.  Loved it!  Quite the improvement from Ina-gadda-da-leela.

Updating my list, and I reckon I'll post reasons too:

1 - The Late Phillip J. Fry - Excellent plot, very cleverly thought out. I always admire the futurama episodes that have a cleverly thought out plot. I admired Bender's big score for all the time paradoxes, and I admire this for the time aspect, and it's take on history, evolution, the distant future, the universe, and so forth. And obviously some great jokes in here too, namely Farnsworth shooting Hitler.

2 - The Duh-Vinci Code - Loved this ep, and I don't understand other people's beef with it. It had a great plot, a unique feel, and just plain funny. I particularly liked the whole combination of Leonardo's inventions, the chain reaction and how they worked together to form that space-ship. Also, I know it's only a small scene, but when the Prof. was turining his head in panic over all those sums and then his neck snapped! That was just hillarious!

3 - Proposition Infninity - An overall good ep, with decent jokes and a decent story. Nice to have an Amy-centred episode, and I particurlarly enjoyed the scenes with her parents. The hurricaine scene was funny too.

4 - Lethal Inspection - A good episode. I'm not a big fan of Hermes, but I much prefered this episode to other Hermes eps such as HHRHGB and the route of all evil (if you count that as a Hermes ep). A highlight of the ep for me was the old man finally reaching the front of the queue of the central buorocracy (spelt?), the same old man we saw in HHRHGB. I also liked the ending, very touching.

5 - Rebirth - A good episode. Nice twist, touching, and funny, and a great way to revive Futurama. I found it a bit plain in comparisson to other eps, which is why it's quite low, but I guess it needed to tie up some loose ends etc, so yeah, a good ep but a bit forgettable for me.

6 - In-A-Gagga-Da-Leela - I still enjoyed this ep despite it's critical reception, and despite the fact that it's so low on my list. It wasn't the strongest ep, but it did have it's moments. Like many, I felt the first half was superior to the second half. Amy's orgy line was very funny, something that wouldn't have been possible on FOX due to adult content. So an ok episode, not the best, but not the worst.

7 - Attack Of The Killer App - This was just dumb. A stupid episode that didn't feel like Futurama. Instead, it felt like a bad simpsons halloween special or something. There was absolutely no closure at the end of the episode - everyone's a zombie, Mom's evil laughing, and then the ep ends - wtf?! Where's the closure in that? What a dumb way to end an ep. And the susan boyle joke was the least funny in Futurama history. There was some good bits in the ep like the barfing goat, but still, unfortunately the bad outweighed the good in this ep.

Overall, I am really enjoying season 6 so far. I love 2 of the eps, really like another 2, and just like another 2. There's only 1 ep I have disliked so far.

I still don't get people's problem with the end of Attack Of The Killer App, it's funny because there's all this build up and talking about how they'll all become zombies but then in the end they're no more zombie-like than in the beginning when they were queuing up for the EyePhone.

Ah well, different people, I guess...

I just don't understand the argument that Futurama has never before had an ending that is quite so insubstantial and ambiguous and seems to put the characters in danger, because episodes like "War is the H-Word" and "The Cryonic Woman" end just as abruptly and on a similar note. I liked (or at the very least didn't mind) the ending of "Attack of the Killer App" because it was funny to see Mom's plan essentially accomplish nothing; I didn't feel like the build up to it was a waste, or that the plan itself was disappointing. But, like Jezzem says, different strokes for different folks or whatever.

Anyway, my updated rankings, which I've tweaked slightly after having rewatched the first two episodes of the season:

7. In-A-Gadda-Da-Leela
6. Attack of the Killer App
5. Proposition Infinity
4. The Duh-Vinci Code
3. Rebirth
2. Lethal Inspection
1. The Late Philip J. Fry

It's an awful ending because even if it is a funny joke (and personally I don't find it funny), it's at the sake of storyline. The storyline just ends as it's begin to develop towards a climax. Maybe the problem lies with the episode's pacing more than that, but even so. Good comedies build their comedy around the storyline and characters -Attack of the Killer App's ending is a classic example of building a storyline around a joke and it just doesn't work.

I also hate the endings of War is the H-Word and The Cryonic Woman and even then, the episode's overall storylines are finished, they just chuck an extra 'prologue' moment on the end. Attack of the Killer App spends ages building this plot that goes nowhere. You could argue that Fry and Leela's storyline is the real story of the episode, but they spend too much time building Mom's subplot for it to go nowhere. I don't care if this is the joke, it isn't funny.

Here are my rankings so far, minus explanations because I've gone in depth about my feelings for each episode in their respective threads. I'll probably recap at the end of this run too.

7.Attack of the Killer App
6.In-A-Gadda-Da-Leela
5.Proposition Infinity
4.The Duh-Vinci Code
3.Lethal Inspection
2.Rebirth
1.The Late Philip J. Fry

Don't know about that. Sure, it won't touch The Late Philip J. Fry but it did look like zany fun. (The idea of the Planet Express crew being brainwashed could be hysterical)

Being brainwashed by a race of cats seems really uninspired.  There's gotta be something more lurking behind it.

Is Fry's delta-negative brainwave profile going to feature again?

I actually have great hope for That Darn Katz!. It seems to me that the episode is parodying the emergence of cat popularity on the internet (LOLcats, cats wearing silly hats, videos of cats doing cute things getting lots of hits on YouTube) by having the super-intelligent alien cats perform the same tricks on the real world to take it over that worked so well for their Earthican brethren on the internet. This is classic Futurama satire.

vonboy, sometimes (or all the time, I don't know) Comedy Central shows a preview for the next week's episode during the credits of the current one. This is probably the clip referenced by i_c_weiner.

Probably not, because Fry himself appears to be brainwashed.

There's a shot of a couple hundred cats approaching the Planet Express building and apparently giving it a huge static shock.  Hmm.

The vibe I got is that Amy and Nibbler will somehow have to save the rest of the brainwashed PE crew from all the cute widdle cats. Which sounds really lame, but who knows? I've basically accepted that nothing (until, perhaps, "The Prisoner of Benda" or "The Mutants Are Revolting") will rival "The Late Philip J. Fry" in the quality department. But that doesn't bother me, because you need some average and slightly above average episodes to make you appreciate the brilliant ones. Relativity and all.

Well, what goes up must come down. We just had an amazing episode ("the late philip j. fry") and i think it will be very hard to top it. Do you really expect That Darn Katz to be even better than "The Late Philip J. Fry" ??  I Don't think it will be a horrible episode, but I'm keeping my expectations low for this one. It looks like a fun episode after all, and I think I will end up enjoying it. After all, I do love cats!!

Odd, I've actually been looking forward to that one for a while.  The plot just sounds so funny (simplistic, yes, but I would have to assume there's more to it that we don't know yet).  And the previews looked pretty funny.  Just that shot of the possessed crew holding cats and chanting ("Pet it!  Pet it!") is hilarious animation.  It automatically makes me laugh.  And seeing something with Nibbler involved again sounds cool.  Oh, and Maurice Lamarche gets to voice an "evil cat."  Come on, what's not awesome about that?

Also, as a side note, I kind of like that they've been finding ways to pair up characters in some way that don't normally interact that much.  Amy and Bender, Bender and Hermes, etc, and now Amy and Nibbler apparently.  It seems like a good way to get some natural mileage out of the show, explore the relationships between characters that aren't normally explored.

(And as a second side note: kitteeeeehs!  Seriously, they're awesome.)

Here's my updated rankings of Season 6:

1. The Late Philip J. Fry
2. Lethal Inspection
3. Rebirth
4. The Duh-Vinci Code
5. Proposition Infinity
6. In-A-Gadda-Da-Leela
7. Attack Of The Killer App

So as of this time of posting, I personally feel that "The Late Philip J. Fry" will probably hit my top 5 all-time favourite Futurama episodes, whilst "Attack Of The Killer App" is currently my least favourite Futurama episode (excluding the movies). Season 6 appears to be improving alot though, but what can our expectations be for the next ones? Some of these episodes are hard to tell...

AdrenalinDragon's rankings pretty much reflect my opinion of the Season 6 episodes so far.

I can't see future episodes sinking any lower than IADGL or AOTKA. Even if some of the episodes to come don't turn out to be that great, I don't think any of them will make anyone as angry as IAGDL or AOTKA made some fans.
