Well maybe I'm wrong about all of this. Take a look at this promising article, also at IGN:
http://tv.ign.com/articles/110/1100598p1.html

Huzzah! Tear jerkers are coming! And The Late Philip J. Fry is on par with Jurassic Bark, eh? We'll see about that, Mr. LaMarche. If they can match Jurassic Bark, then Futurama will be back for good. YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST!

Also, official confirmation of Al Gore appearing in episodes 6ACV13, aka "The Holiday Standalone". DXC says this is his 4th guest appearance, giving him the record. And he says that George Takei will have his 3rd, which will tie him with Phil Hendrie's three. And had we known about the Comic Con 3010 episode yet?

Whoa, speaking of only linking to reviews if they reveal info on episodes, check out this stuff from the comments section of that review I linked to-
That's a horrible policy. He saw the episode and he doesn't want to spoil it. It's not as if he never saw it to begin with. He knows IGN readers are, for the most part, avid Futurama fans who don't want to be spoiled. I, for one, don't want to be spoiled too badly, especially from a review. I'm happy it was linked and contained no spoilers, it gives me high hopes for the rest of the season. As svip said, series premieres usually aren't high points. The only one I can remember being so is Lost's, and that was nowhere near the top 25 Lost episodes (of about 100) in my opinion.

As such, please use spoiler tags. This thread doesn't have a spoiler warning for one thing, and another is that you just spoiled it for everybody.

Which reminds me: new members should remember that people don't like being spoiled. In the episode discussion threads that will be popping up Thursday, make sure that you use spoiler tags on certain things for a few days following its premiere to give people time to watch the episode. Especially don't reveal spoilers in a thread title.

What's the point of linking to reviews if all they'll say is "I thought the episode was good/bad"? Aren't our own opinions just going to override anything anyway ("What was that guy on? That episode was average/awesome!")? No review is fact. It's pointless to get excited or depressed or whatever just because some other guy did. Look at you and Svip. You already assume that Rebirth isn't going to be a fantastic episode just because this one guy doesn't think it is. Why are you accepting this guy's opinion as fact? It doesn't matter what this guy or anyone else thinks. We'll all have our unique takes on the quality of the episodes.

What's this stuff about spoilers? This entire thread would be considered nothing but spoilers. Every single day we post whatever CCI put up about the episodes that makes us know more about them than if we hadn't gone to the site at all. We go out of the way to ask other PEELers (mostly Gorky) to post promos that show us stuff about the episodes that we otherwise wouldn't know (there are people who consider promos spoilers). Some of these reviews and press releases would be considered spoilers (like that one that revealed Bender is dancing to burn off excess energy from a Doomsday Device installed within him). As far as I'm concerned, anything that's not a recap or transcript is not a spoiler. I'm quite mindful of what a spoiler is and those comments I posted aren't spoilers (not anymore than the rest of review).

Screw putting anything in spoiler tags in the upcoming episodes review threads! Who the hell would enter the review threads and not expect to get spoiled? Those are free discussion about the episodes.

Seriously man, why rag on me? I've done nothing out of the ordinary for this thread.

Well maybe I'm wrong about all of this. Take a look at this promising article, also at IGN:
http://tv.ign.com/articles/110/1100598p1.html

From what I gather, and I hope much to FistfulOAwesome's pleasure, is that none of the guest actors seems to be playing themselves, but rather strange characters of all sorts.

That is great stuff.

Well personally, I'd like the reviews to be there to give me an indication of how high to set my expectations. I probably won't agree outright with anything, but if I read 3 reviews saying the new episodes are good then it means I don't have to worry so much about the show's return and likewise, if I read a number of awful reviews then I'll lower my expecations and if the new episodes do suck, I won't be as crushed.
I'm still looking forwards to Rebirth but now I'm not expecting it to be one of the all time great episodes of the show which I sort of was before. And now if it's only on par with the averagey episodes, I'll still be pleased.
Obviously our own opinions will over-ride everything but we can't form those opinions until Thursday.

Well, we know Devo are playing mutated versions of themselves from a previous David X. Cohen interview. Al Gore and George Takei are presumably playing themselves again. That sounds like the usual mixture of guest stars as themselves and guest stars as original characters from throughout the show's run to me.

No, what you posted was a spoiler. It revealed something that was unknown, as in a spoiler. The time to use a spoiler is not when you think it's needed but when others may think it is needed. The spoiler tags by their very nature are a service to others, not yourself.

There's a stark difference between what you did and what others are doing. They're using links to these promos, CCI things, etc., which can or cannot be clicked on. The larger and unavoidable images posted on here are promo pictures that don't reveal anything that require spoiler tags. "Oh, Leela and Zapp with fig leaves." The storyboards posted are either smaller images or linked, so people who don't want to know what they say aren't in an unavoidable situation. You, on the other hand, posted text revealing a, possibly THE, plot point about this upcoming episode.

Spoiler tags in upcoming episode review and discussion threads are a courtesy to others. There is a statue of limitations on spoilers though. Let me use an example: Nibbler's shadow and the revelation in The Why of Fry. Let's say Person A is a week or two behind everybody else and just watched Jurassic Bark. So Person A goes into the Jurassic Bark review/discussion thread. Person B has seen the newest episode, The Why of Fry, and thinks Person A has as well, or blatantly doesn't care about whether others have seen it or not. Person A posts asking if others saw the shadow. "Did anybody else notice that Fry's shadow's there too? What does this mean?" Person B replies, "Duh it's Fry! He came back from the future to stop Nibbler from blowing him into the freezer!" without using spoiler tags. Person A's experience of watching The Why of Fry for the first time is ruined completely.

After a few weeks, or even months depending on how spoilerific the event is, the statue of limitations on the spoiler is expired and it is assumed everybody knows about it already. It's like if there were forums after Empire Strikes Back. Vader being Luke's father would be in spoiler tags. However, after a few years, it's common knowledge that this is true so spoiler tags are unnecessary.

Please consider others, FoA. You seem to have a very insensitive point of view on other's here on PEEL, and I'm not singling you out as if I don't like you; I would've done likewise for others.

I forget about it being Coolio's as well. It's like sometimes I forget Takei was in Bender's Game because his part was so small. Too bad they've had trouble getting John Goodman to be a repeat customer. Hopefully it's not likewise with Dan Castellaneta upcoming.

Whoa! I'd never do that on purpose. If I wanted to talk about the shadow I'd mention it in the Why of Fry thread rather than going back to the Jurassic Bark Thread. I'd assume this standard for anything relating to it, like if something secret was in episode "early in the season" that was later explained in episode "later in the season", I wouldn't go to the "early in the season episode" thread and blab there. Like I said, I have some idea of what I think people would consider a spoiler (which might have failed me this time) and wouldn't go out of my way to spoil.

On the other hand, I'm not sure that Empire Strikes Back point works. Why would you go to a discussion thread about Empire Strikes Back (in this fictional point where the internet existed at the time of its release and there was a board with a thread on it) if you don't want to get spoiled about it? Shouldn't you expect people to talk openly about it? I'd understand complaints if you went to a A New Hope thread (let's pretend they are adventure serials and A New Hope was shown the week before) and somebody posted that Vader is Luke's dad there, but not in The Empire Strikes Back thread. Likewise, if a thread is made to discuss Rebirth (that's all the thread is), no matter how recent Rebirth was shown (let's say it's created immediately after the episode airs), am I not allowed to discuss it openly? After all, the entire thread is about discussing Rebirth (nothing more), that's all I'm there to talk about, and it's known that that's all that's supposed to be discussed there (so if you didn't want to know anything, it's easily avoided). What would be the problem? Who am I holding back for?

O.K, maybe I messed up on posting those comments (Nobody discussed them, or the 602 stuff from that review a few days ago). If nobody wants me to post anything that wasn't screened by the creators or straight from their mouths, I won't. I honestly thought it wasn't a spoiler, but I guess I was wrong. I apologize (I'll go put it in spoiler tags for anyone who might play catch up on posts on this thread).

"and Chris Elliot will be playing a persnickety Censor Ship - a spaceship that's trying to censor things it doesn't like, and by 'censor' I mean 'kill.'"
(From http://tv.ign.com/articles/110/1100598p2.html)

I'm pretty sure that'll be in In-A-Gadda-Da-Leela. I remember a promo on Comedy Central of Fry in one of those hooded robes, screaming "Why won't you censor it?!?" at someone/something above him.

He hasn't been neither confirmed nor mentioned, nor has the Robot Devil for that matter. Given that he's a Simpsons regular and the Robot Devil is a popular reoccurring character, I'd bet he appears somewhere in these 26 episodes. If not, there will be hell to pay! Hell, I say!

No, the article have not changed my feelings about the first episode so far.  These critics are usually a lot harsher than I might be.  Or focus on things I don't care about.  Like reading a review on film based on a book and they are like 'woah inconsistencies, plx', and I'm like 'sooooo what?'.  Anyway, I also think that one of the flaws in most reviews of Futurama as it returns is simply most people's expectations will be too high.  It's Futurama, after all.

Also, the Hypnotoad opening that we saw in that clip from "Attack of the Killer App" (about Futurama being cancelled by idiots and brought back by bigger idiots) is apparently part of the into to "Rebirth."

Also: This, which says this:

Of course, Brannigan being Brannigan, he takes this chance to romance Leela once again, even though she's devoted to Fry.

Which obviously makes shippy ol' me happy. It's not a bad write-up, and it promises an interview with DXC tomorrow.

1. "What does the 'J' in Fry's name stand for?"

Nothing. Maybe Jupiter. Or Jenetics. They talk about the Jay Ward middle initial thing, which I think has been mentioned in at least four separate Simpsons and Futurama commentaries.

2. "Will Kif and Amy's babies appear this season?"

No.

3. "What guest stars would you like to have on the show?"

They talk about the Star Trek quasi-reunion in "Where No Fan Has Gone Before", then mention Coolio and Al Gore and George Takei appearing this season.

4. "What is one question you wish fans would stop asking?"

Where do you get your ideas from? What character do you write for?

Nothing spoiler-y, with the exception of the Kif and Amy thing. DXC said the writers have discussed incorporating them into episodes, but it would require a lot of flashbacks and clips from "Kif Gets Knocked Up a Notch" and such.

Oh, and "Rebirth" isn't really doing a similar thing with its first moments? Explaining the babies might take a bit more time, but surely they'd be able to come up with something. I'm not clambering for an episode dealing with them, but a plot point or mentioning might be nice at some point.

That's all right though, as we have more pressing things to be concerned (or not) about. So there are different reviewers getting different impressions of how funny or well-done these first two episodes are...if anything, that seems like a good thing as it'll leave more room for us to decide for ourselves what we think of the episodes (not that we wouldn't have done that anyway).

I think they can be excused in the first episode but it's certainly not something they want to get into a habit of doing.
Although I don't see why they couldn't do it with just a throwaway line of dialogue about what happened, but whatever, I'm not too eager to revisit those kids and I doubt the writers are either, otherwise they'd probably do it.

This press release from way back when states that CC's Futurama site will post interviews with the cast and crew as the new season progresses. I'm not sure what this means for the CCI updates, but I'd imagine they're worth keeping around, since there will still be new episodes to promote for the rest of this broadcast season and the next one.

If somebody spoils, I will launch them into the sun. And then launch that sun into another sun. And so on and so forth.

No spoil here, unless you consider this a spoiler:  Lots of lulz in these two episodes (I laughed a lot), but the plots are I won't say.  The endings are sort of similar.  But I won't say more than that!  You may not even spot it, only if you think about it!  In short; optimistic around the rest of the season.

Also, I can confirm Matt Groening is credited as writer of the first two episodes!  Along with Cohen (teleplay & story) for 601 and Carolyn Premish (story & teleplay) for 602.  They are directed by Frank Marino and Dwayne Carey-Hill, respectively.  For anyone who cares.

In addition, The Infosphere will remain without this new content until the episodes have aired.  So don't worry about spoilers there (there might be a few, though, but only minor details as per usual).

I wouldn't consider those spoilers at all. More teases.

I care about random people's names! I've never heard of Carolyn Premish, nor has Wikipedia or Google. Interesting.

And wait, the Frank Marino? Of Mahogany Rush? And I'm not exactly a Dwayne fan, but I'm very happy to hear that Groening has his first writing credit on anything since The Simpsons Movie. Once again proving Futurama is more important than the Simpsons.

*Looks*

Yep, there they are. Obviously Svip couldn't resist, but I'm waiting for the non-compressed HD version.

One non-spoiler question, though - are they worthy? Please say yes.

Yes.  Though, I doubt they will become "Roswell That Ends Well" worthy, but worthy of Futurama.  But I think the first weird part when you watch them is that you are watching new Futurama.  It's like you need to suspend disbelief for a while.  They'll probably feel more comfortable after I've watched them a couple of times.

Let's put this into terms we can all understand. Let's say you tiered them according to this guide:

God: Roswell That Ends Well
Great: Jurassic Bark
Good: Insane in the Mainframe
Okay: Brannigan Begin Again
Meh: A Fishful of Dollars
Bad: Put Your Head on My Shoulders
Ugly: Bender Gets Made
Stinker: A Leela of Her Own

Where would you tier them?

I am not sure I can actually do that.  Like I said; they need to settle in and we all have something different that appeals to us in this show.  I'd consider it in a similar class as Brannigan, Begin Again, though, so 'okay' I guess.

That is soooo not what he was asking about.  He was asking how I would rate the two first episodes of season 6.
